Community Education
Family Abuse Services emphasizes prevention of violence through education and awareness programs for diverse groups of people of all ages.
Our School Outreach also includes annual puppet shows to every 3rd grade class in Alamance County, presented in conjunction with the Alamance County Service League. For more information and video footage of the show click on the following link: Annual Puppet Show.
Other Outreach Initiatives include development and distribution of publications, brochures and other information for domestic violence advocates, survivors and victims. Our goal is to seek every opportunity to erase domestic violence and build peace.

School Outreach
We have worked with local schools to teach youth about appropriate vs. inappropriate scenarios, resources for children in abusive situations, dating dynamics, signs of abuse and warning signs of potentially abusive relationships. Since 2008, this has been presented through W.A.V.E. (Wiping Out Abuse and Violence through Education), adding presentations from Family Abuse Services battered women’s shelter, Law Enforcement, DSS and Juvenile Justice.Our School Outreach also includes annual puppet shows to every 3rd grade class in Alamance County, presented in conjunction with the Alamance County Service League. Mentors in Violence Prevention – MVP Program
In collaboration with Elon University and local domestic violence task force members, we established the nationally acclaimed MVP Program, developed originally by Northeastern University’s Center for the Study of Sport in Society. The MVP program brings students in touch with deep issues of bystander empathy and involvement in initiatives to promote healthy relationships on many levels.Other Outreach Initiatives include development and distribution of publications, brochures and other information for domestic violence advocates, survivors and victims.
